Torah Walk

When Beth Messiah moved from a house to our church building, we had to move the Torah to the new place, so the City of Columbus shut down Broad Street so we could march the Torah from the old house to the new building.  It was an awesome sight, we were singing and dancing and all the folks of the city got to see us celebrate God that day

I Have Found the One I Love;
I will Not Let Him Go

First Day in Heaven.jpg

This is a painting by an Egyptian artist named Kerolos Safwat.

 It is usually found under the title, The First Day in Heaven, but the actual title is,

I Have Found the One I Love; I will Not Let Him Go, from the Song of Songs:

Son 3:3  "The watchmen who make the rounds in the city found me, And I said, 'Have you seen him whom my soul loves?'

Son 3:4  "Scarcely had I left them When I found him whom my soul loves;

I held on to him and would not let him go

And we see that this wonderful scene comes true in the book of John:

Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene

Joh 20:11  But Mary was standing outside the tomb weeping; and so, as she wept, she stooped and looked into the tomb;

Joh 20:12  and she *saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been lying.

Joh 20:13  And they *said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She *said to them, "Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him."

Joh 20:14  When she had said this, she turned around and *saw Jesus standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus.

Joh 20:15  Jesus *said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?" Supposing Him to be the gardener, she *said to Him, "Sir, if you have carried Him away, tell me where you have laid Him, and I will take Him away."

Joh 20:16  Jesus *said to her, "Mary!" She turned and *said to Him in Hebrew, "Rabboni!" (which means, Teacher).

Joh 20:17  Jesus *said to her, "Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, 'I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.'"

clinging

ἅπτω   haptō

A primary verb; properly to fasten to, that is, (specifically) to set on fire: - kindle, light.

Similarities between the Song of Songs and Mary Magdalene with Jesus:

  • The woman is searching for the one who she loves.  She meets the watchmen and asks if they have seen him

  • Mary is looking for Jesus, whom she loves.  She meets the angels and explains that she is looking for Him.

  • Without waiting for an answer, the woman immediately turns around and finds him.  She holds onto him and would not let him go.

  • Without waiting for an answer, Mary immediately turns around and sees Jesus standing there.  As soon as he reveals himself as Jesus, she embraces him so big and for so long that he finally, lovingly tells her that she has to stop clinging to him so that he can ascend to the Father and carry on the work of Eternity.

God's Living Lulav

Although stable at the doctor's office when they left, the nuthatch passed away in the middle of the night.

I was sad and tried to hold back my emotions, but they welled up for a while.  I went to the window and talked to God about how I understood, and how I loved him and missed him today.  As soon as I said I missed him, a nuthatch flew right across my line of sight.  It is a very foggy day and that was the first bird I saw.

I took a walk and God has a heavy fog down.  It’s 10:28am right now…when was the last time we saw fog at this hour still thick?  The fog is cool and pleasant, not cold; and it is easy to breathe, pleasant like medicine.

It feels very close with the fog.  The leaves have fallen, so the side yard is a carpet of deep red leaves.

I notice the willow tree above me, and it looks extra real, especially with the fog.  Then I notice all these little leaves around me and they look familiar.  They are from the willow tree, and they have fallen all around me.  They are the same leaves that were part of the lulav from Sukkot a couple of weeks ago that we waved around.  It was like God was close and understood, and covered me and our walk with his leaves from his lulav.  I don’t have the words to explain it further, but I just know that he is with me.

He brings me back to center; he brings me back to him, where all things are made right.

It’s noon, still 48 degrees and deeply foggy.  I’m in my shorts and t-shirt and feel fine, great really.
